Born into a family of ministers, Leon Timbo began singing at the age of 16 and playing the guitar in his early 20s. Over the years he’s develop a heart and hunger for God. “Growing up in the COGIC church, I enjoyed listening to and singing traditional gospel music,” says Leon. “But as I began teaching myself to play, it was a challenge for me to emulate those rhythms and patterns on my own— which is why I was drawn to the simplicity of the acoustic guitar.”
Through his life experiences and self-taught guitar lessons, Leon has developed a unique style of worship. “I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to stand before wonderful crowds in the body of Christ and lead them into worship,” says Leon. “During these worship experiences, I might sing passages from Song of Solomon or I might sing a fresh song that God has given me for the moment.”
Leon got his first major break in the industry as a songwriter for Stellar and Dove award nominee, Lisa McClendon. From there, he continued to grow spiritually and musically─ appearing along the way on Bobby Jones Gospel, TBN’s Black History Celebration, as well as guest ministering at The Potter’s House, North Point Community Church and several others. Over the years, Leon has also released four “indie” projects of his own and most recently signed a major record deal with super-producer Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds. Be on the lookout for Leon’s first major-label release this fall.
