Happy New Year HEARlings!
We hope you all enjoyed a blessed and musically enriched holiday season!!!
As you may recall, last year Hear What I Hear introduced its “Open Mic” series, where we invite guest writers to submit their thoughts, reviews and memoirs about the music that’s had a significant impact on their lives! Today, we’re proud to share the next installment in the series! Read on as our guest blogger, Sandra Jackson, shares her reaction to Vashawn Mitchell’s latest project, Unstoppable.
Whether reminding the body of Christ that there is Nobody Greater (Triumphant) than God or encouraging them that He is in process of Turning [their situation] Around (Created4This), Vashawn Mitchell embodies the heart and soul of a worshiper and leads listeners to a deeper level with his latest project Unstoppable.
Vashawn opens up with the thunderous tune, Holding On. This is is one of the few up-tempo, contemporary songs of praise found on the album. The others include Warrior and Amaze Me, where he declares his confidence in God as Savior, Ruler and Healer. It’s these songs that will make you put on your shoutin shoes and give Him all the praise.
But Vashawn’s signature is worship. And in true fashion, it’s his worship songs that carry this album and lead you into the Holy of Holies. And before you know it, you’ll be hitting repeat a time or two to bask in the presence of the Lord just a little while longer.
God My God, the lead single, is a great representation of what you’ll find on this project.
The melodic intro on Watching plants a quiet, yet secure confidence in the listener’s heart by reminding them that there is no need to worry because God watches over His word and watches over each of us. Jonathan McReynolds joins him on this one and together they take the song to even greater heights with the promises that God will NEVER let us go. For me, Watching is the best song on the album.
Then there’s Medley, which as the name implies, features a medley of worship songs, delivered as only Vashawn can. You Carried Me ushers in the Holy Spirit which engulfs our hearts–lyrically.
But, before you come down off the mountaintop, be sure to listen to My God is Real, where Vashawn takes us to church with his rendition of the classic hymn.
Unstoppable is truly a “put the needle on the record” kind of project – regardless of where it drops, you will be blessed and yearning for more of the glory of God. This project gets two headphones from me!
