Okay, so I just want to go on record by saying…that tv programming of today is lacking a certain je ne sais quoi. I mean seriously. As of late, I’ve been more entertained by old episodes of The Cosby Show, A Different World and Martin, then by many of the current shows being offered by the big networks.
But just when I was starting to find comfort in the tv time warp of the 1970s, 80s and 90s…enters something worth watching. Could it be?! Something educational yet entertaining –simultaneously??!!!! Why yes…it could! What’s the name of this gem you might ask? TV-ONE’s critically acclaimed “music-mentary” UNSUNG. I’m sure you’ve seen it. And if you haven’t…wow. I simply can’t get enough of it actually.
Over the past 5 seasons, UNSUNG has traced the history of artist like Phyllis Hyman, Donny Hathaway, Minnie Ripperton, Zapp and Roger, Stacy Lattisaw and Teddy Pendergrass; answering questions like, “Where are they now?” or “What ever happened to?”
I find the show simply fascinating. Really, in my book…you don’t come across better tv programming than this. My only compliant about the show is…there aren’t enough of them! The seasons are far too short in my book (on average 5-6 episodes per season). And when the season is over, us fanatics are left waiting patiently/impatiently for more. MORE!
So, while we continue FEENIN for the next season to commence, I’ll share some of my suggestions of musicians I’d like to see featured in the future:
- The Commodores
- Atlantic Starr
- Chuckii Booker
- Hi Five
- Heavy D.
- Nice and Smooth
Now your turn. Who would you like to see?

Can’t wait to HEAR who you’d like to see!
Until Next Time,
-TL
