Ok y’all…allow me to step up on my soapbox for just a minute. I’ll be brief! This morning I was reminded yet again that the radio ain’t what it used to be. I remember a time when I had my Maxells or TDKs in the tape deck and the “Record + Pause” buttons ready and waiting to catch my favorite slow jams off the Quiet Storm or to be the first to have the new-new joints that were stamped “WORLD PREMIERE”! (Back in the day when I was young/I’m not a kid any more…)
But now-a-days, with the exception of the playlist compiled by a local college station in town, I’m hard-pressed to find just 3 songs that are currently in rotation that I can relate to, let alone allow me to make it beyond the first verse before either changing the station or turning the radio off completely.
I know airplay + repetition = money but does anyone else out there feel like the powers that be, in the world of radio, are insulting our intelligence? I mean…should’nt music have the power to transform you somehow? Challenge your thinking? Help you to grow and discover new things about an artist, a genre…and who knows…maybe even yourself?
I’m just saying???
Ok, I’m stepping off my box of Tide now. Would love to hear your thoughts. What say you?
Until the next time…
